In the following screen shot, you can see that the input method icon on the taskbar disappears. Meanwhile, you cannot switch input method by pressing Windows key+Space. Then, what can you do under such a circumstance? You can find the solution in this article which illustrates how to settle the problem by turning on Input Indicator in Windows 8/8.1 computers.

Step 1: Open Taskbar Properties.
To open it, you can right-click the Taskbar on the desktop and select Properties in the menu, as shown in the picture below.
Step 2: Customize taskbar properties.
In the Taskbar Properties window, click Customize button in Taskbar.
Step 3: Enter Turn system icons on or off.
When the Notification Area Icons interface appears, choose Turn system icons on or off on the bottom left.
Step 4: Turn Input Indicator on.
In the System Icons window, move the scroll bar to find Input Indicator, click the down arrow key beside it, select On in the pull-down list and tap OK to complete the settings. For detailed illustration, you can refer to the following photo.
After the above steps are done, the Input Indicator is turned on with success and the input method icon appears on the Taskbar, as shown in the screen shot below.
Remarks: If the input method icon does not show up and there is its placeholder on the Taskbar (referred to the following screen shot), you can make it emerge according to the steps introduced below.
Step 1: Open System 32 folder in C disk.
You can find the folder through the following process and then open it.
Computer→Local Disk (C:)→Windows→System 32
Step 2: Right-click any blank space in the folder and build a new subfolder named LogFiles.
Step 3: Restart the computer.
To make a summary, you can turn on Input Indicator to display the input method icon on the Taskbar in accordance with the method above.
