When some special characters are needed, many Windows 8 users are inclined to search for them on the Internet and copy them from webpages. However, one deficiency of this method is that it doesn't work when there is no Internet access. In consequence, this article will tell you how to copy and paste special characters with the assistance of the built-in Character Map (referred to the following picture).

Step 1: Open Character Map.
Step 2: Choose a font. (Optional)
As the window of Character Map turns up, click the down arrow on the same line with Font, and choose a proper font from the drop-down list.
Step 3: Find and select a special character.
In the character map, locate and click the special character you are looking for. After that, tap Select button.
Step 4: Copy the special character.
Click Copy to duplicate the selected character.
Step 5: Paste the character.
Press the composite keys of Ctrl+V to paste it in a document or another specified place.
