Generally speaking, you will be directly led to the user login interface after the computer startup. However, if a Startup Password (also known as Startup Key) is created, you will be required to enter the Startup Password to start your computer, as shown in the following screen shot. Supposing that you are wondering how to set such a password, this article will illustrate the steps to set Startup Password in Windows 8 computer for your reference.
Step 1: Right-click the bottom left corner on the desktop to open the Quick Access Menu, and choose Run to open this program.
Step 2: In the Run dialog, type syskey in the empty box and tap OK.
Step 3: Choose Yes in the User Account Control window to continue.
Step 4: As the Securing the Windows Account Database dialog appears, select Update.
Step 5: In the Startup Key window, choose Password Startup, enter a password, reenter it and click OK.
Tip: There is no limitation to the password length and components.
After the above five steps, the Startup Password has been successfully created, as exhibited in the following picture.
