Nowadays many office men use MS Outlook to manage emails. Some guys would store their contacts and other data in PST file on the local drive. But some guys would prefer to use OST file when their Outlook profile is configured with MS exchange server so that they can work offline. Typically, when you enable the cached exchange mode in Outlook, then the OST file would be created automatically. But some annoying issues would happen when you choose this mode in Outlook that sometimes the Outlook profile may not be accessible while prompting a warning "C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\user name\username.ost is in use and cannot be accessed." So here we would talk about how to fix Outlook OST file can't be accessed error.
There are some possible attributes of the issues, such as synchronization issue between the local stored OST file and Outlook exchange mailbox server, internet connection problem and multiple users try to access the same Outlook OST file and so on. And we would list some manual methods to fix the error.
Step 1: Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and select Start Task Manager.
Step 2: Search for all the processes with the name Communicator, Lync, ucmapi or Outlook and click End Process option under Processes tab.
Step 1: Close your Outlook.
Step 2: Go to Start menu and select Mail item from Control Panel.
Step 3: In the coming Mail Setup dialog, just click Email Accounts button.
Step 4: In the coming Account Settings dialog, just find the target email account that associated with the OST file and click Change.
Step 5: In the coming Change Account dialog, just uncheck the Use Cached Exchange Mode box.
Typically, when the OST file is not accessible, we can export the corresponding data stored in the OST file to a PST file, so that we can continue our work without any troubles.
Step 1: Start MS Outlook.
Step 2: Go to File>>Open&Export>>Import and Export.
Step 3: Navigate to Export to a file and click Next.
Step 4: Choose the specific folder from which items would be imported and make the destination folder to save the PST file.
