In Google Chrome, extensions can be installed to extend browser capacities. Usually, users can install an extension from whether the Chrome Web Store or unofficial websites. However, with the update of Google Chrome, the ways to add extension to Chrome are differing. As a consequence, let's follow the tutorial below to learn the up to date methods if you need.
Step 1: Go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions to locate to Chrome Web Store.
Step 2: Type the name of extension into the box of the top-right corner then hit Enter to search.
Step 3: Click on Add to Chrome button to install extension.
Sometimes, we may need to install a third-party extension to Chrome. In this case, we can add it from a .crx file. In the latest version of Google Chrome, we are allowed to drag it to the chrome://extensions/ webpage directly. Still, here is a workaround help you load extension from file as well.
Step 1: Hit Windows + E to open File Explorer window. Click on View tab and check the box of File name extensions.
Step 2: Rename the file suffix to rar. Now, the crx file turned into a compressed file.
Note: If you change the suffix of file to zip, you won't be able to decompress it in the following step.
Step 3: Right-click on the file and decompress it.
Step 4: Copy and paste the chrome://extensions/ into the address bar to open extension window.
Step 5: Click on Load unpacked button and locate to your decompressed extension file above.
