Chrome is a powerful browser which allows users to install extensions as they want. In this way, Google Chrome expands a bunch of functions to meet different needs of users. With too many extensions installed, your browser goes too slowly to open a website. This will lead you to uninstall extensions in Chrome. Nevertheless, something bad comes out: unable to uninstall extensions. The error prompt constantly reminds you that "this extension is managed and cannot be removed or disabled", or shows the "Installed by enterprise policy" text. Worry not: this article will explain how to troubleshoot problems unable to uninstall extension in Chrome Windows 10.
If you receive a notification of "this extension is managed and cannot be removed or disabled" while trying to remove the extension, this is likely to be malware. For the extension "Installed by enterprise policy", you need remove it to make your Chrome speedy, too. At times, one or more of malware may disguise the label as "Installed by enterprise policy". Here, you can do the following to address the issue.
Step 1: In the Windows Search Bar, type Control Panel and hit Enter.
Step 2: Click on Uninstall a program under Programs in Control Panel window. Scroll down and choose the target you want. Tap on Uninstall to remove from Google Chrome.
When you are unable to uninstall extensions in Chrome, try this workaround to repair.
Step 1: Make a note of unwanted extension. Type chrome://extensions/ in the address bar and press Enter to go the Extensions page. Check the box of Developer mode, the ID of extensions will be shown to you. Write down the string number.
Step 2: Close Chrome. Press Windows key + R at the same time to open Run dialog box. Then type regedit and press Enter.
Step 3: At the top-left corner, navigate to Edit > Find. In the Find window, input the ID of extension in the box and click on Find Next. Right-click on the key and choose Delete. Press F3 to Find Next, clear them all.
Step 4: Open This PC, navigate to "C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions" without the quote. Replace your actual username with the "Your USERNAME".
Note: If you failed to find AppData folder, tap on the View tab and check the box of Hidden items in the Show/hide section.
Step 4: Find the corresponding folder of ID number. Right click to remove from your computer. An extension can be uninstalled completely in this way.
If the workarounds above don't work effectively, try to delete extensions via running Command Prompt.
Step 1: Input Command Prompt in the Windows search box, right click on the option from the list and Run as administration. When you see the notification of "Computer Policy update has completed successfully", and "User Policy update has completed successfully", close the window.
Step 2: Type the commands below and hit Enter after each line.
Step 3: Open Chrome, from the top-right corner, click on three vertical dots. Choose More toolsExtensions.
Step 4: On the Extensions page, choose the unwanted extension and remove it. Then relaunch Chrome.
Step 5: Type chrome://settings in the URL box and Enter. Expand Advanced to the bottom of the page. Then Scroll down and click on Reset, when the prompt shows you can tap the Reset button again.
