Google Chrome is one of the essential software tools in our daily life, offering not only search function but also a plethora of functional extensions for us to utilize. In the following, I will introduce three Google screen recorder extensions that can capture user’s screen content and generate videos. Some extensions even allow for annotations while recording screen and editing directly on the videos after screen record. Let’s get started.
Screenity is a versatile screen recording tool that allow users to capture their screen effortlessly. With its intuitive interface, users can easily record their entire screen, a specific tab, or a selected area. Screenity also offers features such as adding annotations, highlighting mouse clicks, and recording screen with audio from microphone or system. Screenity also can be used as screen and webcam recorder, enabling users to create engaging video content with both screen and webcam footage. Screenity is extremely popular on GitHub, currently boasting a whopping 4.1K stars, that’s why I've placed it first in the introduction.
Step1: Install the Screenity plugin
To install Screenity, enter the Chrome Web Store.
Search for Screenity, and then click "Add to Chrome". Wait for the installation to complete.
Step2: Launch Screenity
Click on the Screenity extension icon in the top right corner of your browser. In the pop-up Screenity window, choose the content you want to record, then click "Start recording".
Step3: Start to record
In the Screenity operation window, there are three options: Entire Screen, Window, and Chrome Tab. Select the tab or app page you want to record, then click "Share" when the countdown reaches 3 to begin.
Step 4: Begin creating
Select your desired actions in the floating window, then a floating window will appear, where you can annotate with a pen, enable audio recording, or start recording with the camera.
Step 5: Finish recording
Click the black Hollow dots to end recording. After finishing the screen recording, you will be redirected to a result page.
On this page, you can choose the export format, trim the video, download the video, and opt to export it as a GIF format.
Screencastify is a popular screen recording extension known for its simplicity and effectiveness. It allows users to capture their screen with ease, whether it's for educational purposes, tutorials, or presentations. In addition to basic screen recording functionality, Screencastify offers features like editing tools, including trimming, cropping, and adding annotations. Users can also export their recordings directly to Google Drive or YouTube.
Step 1: Install the Screencastify extension
The steps are the same as Screenity.
Step 2: Start Screencastify and begin recording
Click the Screencastify extension button in the top right corner of Chrome. When using it for first time, it needs to sign in with Google account. After sign in, users will see a pop-up recording window where they can choose to record either a Chrome tab or computer desktop, as shown in the image below:
Step 3: End recording and save the video
Click the end button, the page will automatically jump to the video management page of the Screencastify extension, users can view their recorded video list and choose to save it locally or directly upload it to social networks, as shown in the image below:
Screen Recorder offers an intuitive interface and a range of customization options, allowing users to tailor their recording experience to their specific needs. It also provides options to record screen and camera at the same time.
Step 1：Add Screen Recorder to chrome
Typing Screen Recorder in the search box, end press the Enter key on your keyboard. The first one in the search results is our goal.
Then adding it to chrome.
Step 2: Quick start Screen recording
Click Screen Recorder icon in google chrome extension list. Then choose what do you want to capture.
The page will change and you can select whether to record audio. Click "Start Recording" to begin.
Step 3: Save the screen record video
Click "stop", then it will automatically go to Recorded Video page.
In this page, you can check the video recorded then save it to your own pc. Click "new" then the recorded video won’t be stored.
These tools are all online screen recorder, is used for google to record screen. Screenity and Screencastify have more features, while Screen Recorder is a bit simpler and more user-friendly. Just choose one that suits your requirement better.
