Although the design of start screen tiles (as shown in the picture below) is a highlight in Windows 8 computer, some users are unsatisfied with the layout of the tiles and would like to rearrange it by changing the row number of tiles. And there is a way to change the idea into reality. Moreover, the main purpose of this article is to illustrate the method step by step for your better reference.
Video guide on how to change row number of start screen tiles in Windows 8:
Step 1: Turn on Registry Editor.
1. Press Windows key+R to open Run dialog box, input regedit in the box, and then tap OK.
2. As the User Account Control window emerges, click Yes to open Registry Editor.
Step 2: Find and open a folder named Grid in the editor.
You can locate the Grid folder according to the following path and then open it by a click.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software /Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion /ImmersiveShell/Grid
Step 3: Build a new DWORD (32-bit) Value in the Grid folder.
Right-tap any blank area on the right, point to New and select DWORD (32-bit) Value in the list.
Step 4: Rename the new value.
Rename it as Layout_Maximumrowcount.
Step 5: Modify its value data.
1. Double-click Layout_Maximumrowcount, and the Edit DWORD (32-bit) Value window opens.
2. Change the value data to the row number you want to set.
For instance, if you want to rearrange start screen tiles in three lines, you can change the value data to 3 and tap OK.

Tips: The row number of start screen tiles has limitation, which is decided by the screen resolution. That is to say, each screen resolution has its corresponding default, maximum and minimum tile row number. For more info, please refer to the following form.

Step 6: Turn off Registry Editor.
In the Registry Editor window, click the close button on the top right corner, or press Alt+F4 on the keyboard to turn it off.
Step 7: Restart the computer.
After restarting the computer, you can see that the start screen tiles are placed in three lines, as exhibited in the screen shot below.
