Some people prefer to view Control Panel items by category (as shown in pic. 1), while others like to view them by large or small icons (see pic. 2). No matter which side are you on, in this article, you can learn how to change Control Panel view in Windows 8.

By default, the Control Panel opens to the category view. If you want to change the view to the icon view, you can follow the steps below.
Step 1: Access the Control Panel.
Step 2: Click the button (usually referred to Category) beside View by, and choose Large icons or Small icons in the drop-down list.
Step 1: Open the Group Policy Editor.
Step 2: Find the setting of "Always open All Control Panel Items when opening Control Panel".
It is located by following the path of User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Control Panel/Always open All Control Panel Items when opening Control Panel.
Step 3: Go to edit the setting.
Right-click the setting and select Edit in the context menu.
Step 4: Choose and confirm the corresponding setting.
1st case: Enable the setting to change Control Panel view to the icon view. That is, choose Enabled and click OK.
2nd case: Disable the setting to open Control Panel to category view. In more detail, select Disabled and tap OK.
Tips: If the setting is not configured, the Control Panel opens to the view used in the last Control Panel session.
