How to Shuffle Photos in Slideshow on iPhone?

Want to make your photo slideshows on your iPhone or iPad a bit more fun? Different from the default settings often present phots in a fixed order, shuffle photos in your slideshow can add more interests. Let’s get started!

Part 1: Photo Shuffle Option in Older iPhone Settings

For some older iPhones, they contain the settings to play pictures of a photo slideshow in a random order, here is how:

Step 1: Enter Settings and open Photos & Camera (or Photos).

Step 2: In the SLIDESHOW settings, tap the switch on the right of Shuffle to turn it on.

Part 2: Create and Shuffle Photos in iPhone Album with Newer iOS

In the new iOS models, the Shuffle option has been removed, so you cannot directly set the iPhone Photos slideshow using the shuffle option. However, you can still change the order of the photos in the slideshow through other methods:

Step 1: Tap to open the iPhone Photos app. Browse through your photo library and tap Select to choose the photos.

Step 2: Click on the three dots option to open settings, select Add to Album. Click on "+" icon, then name your album, click on Save to finish.

Step 3: Go into the album you created or the existing album with your photos. Tap Select in the upper right corner.

Step 4: Choose the photos you want to include in the slideshow by tapping on them. A checkmark will appear on selected photos.

Step 5: Now you can create a Slideshow with your own.

For iOS 17 devices: Tap on the Share icon, from the share menu, scroll down and select Slideshow. Then the Slideshow will begin auto-play.

For iOS 18 devices: Hit the three-dots options, and select Play as Slideshow. The Slideshow will start playing with the album photos order by default, rather than the order selected by user.

Once the slideshow is created, tap on the playing slideshow to reveal options to adjust iPhone Slideshow Photos orders:

Hit the option in the lower right corner to enter the image order adjustment page. Here long-press on an image and drag it to the desired position to rearrange the order of images in the slideshow.

Click the up and down arrow icon in the lower left corner to choose "Sort by Oldest First", "Newest First", or "Custom Order". Then select the images and choose "Play as Slideshow" to generate the slideshow based on the new photo order from the album.

Part 3: How to Shuffle Photos on Lock Screen?

Step 1: Tap on the lock screen, and unlock to open customize page. Tap on "+" options, and choose "Photo shuffle" in Add New Wallpaper page. Then tap on "Choose Album".

Step 2: After choose iPhone album, you can swipe the wallpaper to change styles, and set as Wallpaper Pair. After set, tap on "Add" to finish.

Step 3: For more options, tap on three dots option, to set photo shuffle frequency on lock screen.

Step 4: To delete wallpaper with iPhone lock screen photo shuffle, return to lock screen customize page, swipe up the wallpaper, and then tap on the delete icon, then confirm to Delete This Wallpaper.

Part 4: Tips to Custom iPhone Photo Slideshow (Optional)

In slideshow options, you can also custom it from many aspects:

For iOS 17 devices:

Change the Theme: Tap on the Theme option to choose from various pre-set themes that affect the transitions between images, including Origami, Dissolve, Magazine.

Select Music: You can select background song from your music library to accompany the slideshow by tapping on the Music option. This can enhance the emotional impact of the viewing experience.

Repeat Slideshow: Enable iPhone Photo Slideshow repeat option to have the slideshow loop continuously.

Adjust Duration: You can modify how long each slide is displayed. Tap Options to set the duration and whether you want to include shuffle playback.

After you’ve adjusted your settings, tap Done. The slideshow will now start playing, showcasing your selected photos in a shuffled order.

For iOS 18 devices:

Change Slideshow Music & Theme: Click on the currently playing slideshow, and tap the music option to add music and filters to the slideshow.

Set Photo Slideshow Cover: Click the three-dot option at the top and select "Edit Title" to edit the cover photo, slideshow name, and add a description, as well as add photos to the slideshow. By clicking "Manage Photos", you can also add or deselect photos in the existing slideshow.

Save Slideshow to Video: By tapping the share option in the upper right corner, you can choose to "Save Video", save it to files. When sharing the slideshow, clicking "Options" allows you to modify the slideshow's orientation and aspect ratio.

Add Photos & Set Key Photo: In the lower right corner, clicking the option will display the selected photo in the slideshow. By clicking the "+" icon in the lower right, you can add photos to the slideshow or deselect them. Long pressing on a photo allows you to choose "Make Key Photo" or delete it.

During the adjustment process, the slideshow will automatically be saved as a memory. After completing the settings, you can view the slideshow you just created in the "Memories" section of the album. Long pressing on a memory allows you to select "Delete Memory".
