Internet Explorer is part of Windows system. However, it may badly crash or out of working at times while we are using Internet Explorer. You can open Windows Defender Security Center to take a full scan on your computer and check whether there is any malware cause the issue or not. If it is not responding, try the detail steps in the following to fix Internet Explorer has stopped working.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is up-to-date. In general, the latest version is always stable and powerful than previous.
Step 1: On the left bottom, click on Start menu and click the gear-shaped button to open Windows Settings dialog.
Step 2: Click on Update & Security, then tap on Windows Update in the left sidebar. Under Update status section, check for Internet Updating.
Tips: You can go to Microsoft official site and download and run the latest version of Internet Explorer manually by yourself.
Back up your data before resetting Internet Explorer. Personal settings include the homepage, cookies, cache, and history files.
Step 1: Under the tab title, click on Tools from the Menu bar and select Internet option.
Tips: If you can't find the Menu bar, you can simply press Alt key on the keyboard to show it up. An alternative, you can also click on the gear icon at the top right corner, tap on Internet option.
Step 2: Here will pop up the Internet options window. Switch to Advanced tab, and click on Reset button.
Step 3: In the Reset Internet Explorer Setting dialog, tick the checkbox Delete personal settings. Tap on the Reset button.
Step 4: When it finished, click on Close and restart Internet Explorer for the changes take effect.
Some malfunctioning add-ons may affect the Internet usage and cause the crash. In this case, we have to disable or delete them.
Step 1: Press Alt key to show Menu bar and click on Tools. Select Manage add-ons from the drop-down.
Step 2: Tap on Toolbars and Extensions on the left sidebar. Choose the All add-ons option under the Show section. In the right sidebar, right-click on the add-on which is not available and select Disable.
If the DNS of the computer gets something wrong, this means DNS service is not configured and domain name resolution is not available. Therefore, you have to check it through Command prompt.
Step 1: Input Command Prompt in the Cortana search bar and hit Enter key. Right-click on the result and then you can select Run as administrator.
Step 2: Type the following command in the Command Prompt window and hit Enter at the end of each line.
Step 3: Close the window and restart your computer.
If all the above methods are invalid, try to reinstall Internet Explorer while it keeps crashing or out of work. Sometimes your profile corrupting may cause the error, follow the steps below to address the issue.
Step 1: Input the Control Panel in the search box on taskbar and press Enter.
Step 2: Navigate to Programs > Programs and Features. Tap on Turn Windows feature on or off in the left sidebar.
Step 3: In the Windows Features window, uncheck the box of Internet Explorer 11. If the warming prompt pops up, tap on Yes button and then click on OK and restart your computer.
Step 4: Once the computer is open, repeat the steps above but check the box of Internet Explorer 11 instead. Restart the computer again to finish installing Internet Explorer.
