Know the difference between MAC address and IP address

By definition, MAC address is also called physical address or hardware address, which is used to identify the location of network device. It is impossible for users to change the MAC address, of which the length is 48 bits (6 bytes), for example, 08:00:20:0A:8C:6D.

4. 4. Different addressing protocol. IP number applies to the OSI layer 3, that is the Network Layer. However, the MAC address applies to the layer 2 of OSI, that is the Data Link Layer.

1. Move your mouse to the upper-right corner and open the Spotlight then type Network Utility in the search bar.

2. In the Network Utility window, the MAC address and IP number are shown under the Info tab.

1. Tap on SettingsGeneral > About.

2. The MAC address is listed by the WiFi Address.

IP number

1. Tap on Settings and press Wi-Fi.
