Google Photos is the official gallery app for Android, an app that allows users to view, edit and backup photos in the Cloud. In addition to this, Google has recently updated the app with enhanced privacy options such as locked folders, and the ability to hide photos. In this article, I will share with you the most effective ways to hide and lock Google Photos with password. Just keep reading and you will find the best method that works for you.
You can save private photos to a folder in the Google Photos app that is protected by the device's screen lock. Items in locked folders will not appear in the photos grid, memories, search or albums, nor in other apps on your device that can access your photos. But this feature is only available for Android 6 and later.
Step 1: Open the Google Photos app on your Android phone.
Step 2: Move to Library > Utilities > Locked Folder.
Step 3: Tap Set up Locked Folders and follow the on-screen instructions to unlock your device. You will be asked to enter your lock screen password or pattern and set it as the lock screen password. If your folder is empty, you will find "nothing here yet".
Step 1: Select the photos you want to store in the Locked Folder.
Step 2: At the top right, tap More > Move to Locked Folder. And then tap Move.
Tip: If you want to move photos from Trash to a locked folder, you first have to restore photos from Trash.
In this way, your photos will be moved to this locked folder and you will need to use your lock screen password to view them.
There is an alternative way to hide your personal photos from search, memory and other apps, but it is not password protected.
Step 1: Open the Google Photos app and select the photos you want to hide from the Photos tab.
Step 2: Click and hold on a photo to select multiple photos, then click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner. Select Archive in the pop-up menu.
Step 3: These photos that you select will be moved to the Archive section. You can see them by going to Library > Archive.
Step 4: If you want to unarchive photos, just tap and hold to select it, and select Unarchive from the menu with three dots.
