In this post, we should show the detailed description of setting computer boot from CD/DVD ROM. Typically, the general method of setting computer boot from CD/DVD is similar with that of booting computer from a USB drive, but there are still some differences between the two boot choices. Now there are many BIOS brand, such as Phoenix Award BIOS and AMI BIOS. What's more, some computers come with some built-in boot menu in which you can change boot option. Therefore, we will describe how to set computer boot from CD/DVD through them respectively.
Boot Computer from CD/DVD through two option:
1. Press Del or other hot keys to enter BIOS when your computer is powering on. Attention: If you don't find the corresponding boot key, just follow the default displayed key on your computer.
Typically, the latest computers' BIOS setup utility would list some main items, such as main, advanced, security, boot, and exit. You can navigate to boot item and set the CD-ROM as the first boot option just like the under picture.
But sometimes, if your computer unfortunately come with some old BIOS utilities, you can get some inspirations from the under stesps. Here we would take old phoenix Award BIOS or AMI BIOS as examples.
For old phoenix Award BIOS, you should:
1. Press the specified boot key to boot to BIOS setup utility.
2. Select Advanced BIOS Features with direction keys.
3. Press Enter to access Advanced BIOS setting screen.
4. Select First Boot Device or 1st Boot Device by up and down arrow keys.
5. Choose CD-ROM with up and down keys.
6. Press ESC back to BIOS setting screen.
7. Choose Save & Exit Setup with direction keys or press the F10 key directly.
For AMI BIOS, you can do as follow:
1. Press Del or other hot keys to enter BIOS when starting computer.
2. Press direction keys to move your mouse to BOOT.
3. Press up and down arrow keys to move mouse to Boot settings/Boot device Priority, and press Enter.
4. In Boot device Priority menu, press up and down keys to move mouse to 1st boot Device. And then press Enter.
5. Select CD-ROM or DVD-ROM as the first boot device.
6. Press F10 to save BIOS settings and exit.
From now on, your computer will boot from CD/DVD automatically as long as you insert CD into computer.
If you find that your computer have a boot menu prompted under the vendor logo at the begin of starting process, you should press the indicated key to boot to boot menu first.
1. When power on, press Boot menu key (F8, F12, Esc, or other key) immediately and repeatedly until the Boot Menu appears.
5. Navigate to CD-ROM Drive or DVD-ROM by using arrow key and as the first boot device and press Enter.
