In Windows 11, your hard disk turns off after a while you don't work, which saves more energy and keep power consumption low. However, you need to wait for the hard disk to take some time to turn on when you access it again. In this article, I walk you through the step-by-step on how to prevent a hard disk from going to sleep in Windows 11.
Step 1: Tap on the Search in the taskbar and search Control Panel inside the search box. Then open it.
Step 2: Then you can see the Control Panel screen.
Step 3: Search Power Options inside the search box in the top right-hand corner. Then click on the Power Options that appeared.
Step 4: Click the drop-down menu next to Show additional plans at the bottom of the Power option screen.
Step 5: Then you can see the High performance option appears.
Step 6: Click on High performance, then click Change plan settings.
Step 7: Click on Change advanced power settings to continue.
Step 8: Then there will pop-up Advanced settings box.
Step 9: Enter “999999999” below the Turn off hard disk after. After that, click OK. You can also set the time for how long you want to turn off hard disk after.
Step 10: After completing setting, you can go back to the Power option screen.
Step 11: In the Power Options screen, you can see that you've changed the plan settings to High performance. It means that you've successfully set to prevent the hard drive from going to sleep in Windows 11.
The method is also applied to prevent the external hard drive from going to sleep on Windows 11. If you don't want your external hard drive to go to sleep when you are inactivity, you can by modifying the power plan settings to prevent it from sleeping.
