User Account Control (UAC) is an important Windows feature that helps prevent unauthorized changes to your computer by alerting you when apps try to make changes that require administrative permissions. Creating a shortcut to the UAC settings on your desktop allows you to access it instantly without having to dig through menus or the Control Panel. Whether you want to adjust UAC settings or quickly toggle notifications, this guide will show you how to set up a convenient shortcut.
Step 1: Right-click empty area on the desktop, point at New in the context menu and tap Shortcut on the sub-menu.
Step 2: As the Create Shortcut window shows up, type %windir%\system32\useraccountcontrolsettings.exe in the empty box and choose Next.
Step 3: In the following window, click Finish to complete the shortcut creation.
You now have a desktop shortcut to open the UAC settings with just a double-click.
Another way to create a quick shortcut is by using a batch file. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Open Notepad and enter the following line of code: start %windir%\\system32\\useraccountcontrolsettings.exe
Step 2: Hit File on the top and then choose Save As from the drop-down menu. After that, select All Files as the file type.
Step 3: Name the file UACShortcut.bat and save it to your desktop.
Now, double-click the batch file whenever you need to open UAC settings.
If you'd prefer not to create a shortcut, you can also access the UAC settings through these methods:
Run command: Press Windows + R to open Run, enter useraccountcontrolsettings.exe, and press Enter.
Control Panel: Open Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings.
Search: Click the Start button, type UAC or User Account Control, and press Enter.
Creating a shortcut for User Account Control (UAC) settings on your desktop is a great way to quickly adjust your system’s security settings. Whether you use the Shortcut Wizard, or create a batch file, you’ll find the method that best suits your preferences.
