Remote Assistance in Windows 10 lets you share your screen with someone you trust so they can help troubleshoot problems or walk you through technical tasks. This built-in feature is great for remote support, especially when you're not physically near the person who needs help. Let's learn how to turn on it in the right way.
Step 1: Open Control Panel and then click System and Security. After that, hit Allow remote access option under System section.
Step 2: Click on the Remote tab on System Properties window. Under "Remote Assistance,” tick the option --Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer.
Step 3: Click the Advanced button. In the Remote Assistance Settings window, check the option—Allow this computer to be controlled remotely. Then set the invitation expiration time (default is 6 hours). After that, hit the OK button.
Step 4: Access Control Panel> System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall. Then hit the option—Allow an app through Windows Firewall.
Step 5: Ensure Remote Assistance is enabled for both Private and Public networks.
You can also turn on Remote Assistance via Registry Editor.
Step 1: Open Registry Editor on your computer.
Step 2: Head to this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Remote Assistance.
Step 3: Find fAllowToGetHelp item on the right pane and double-click it. Then change its value data to 1 and click the OK button.
Step 4: Close Registry Editor and restart your computer to apply the change.
Q1: Can I enable Remote Assistance in Windows 10 Home?
Yes! Remote Assistance is supported on all Windows 10 editions, including Home.
Q2: How long does the Remote Assistance invitation last?
You can set the expiration time manually. The default is 6 hours.
Q3: What's the difference between Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop?
Remote Assistance allows collaborative support with the host present. Remote Desktop gives you full control, but logs the host user out. You can choose the Remote Desktop option to specify who can connect. Two options are here: Don’t allow remote connections to this computer and Allow remote connections to this computer.
Remote Assistance is one of the most useful tools built into Windows 10 for helping friends, family, or coworkers troubleshoot issues from afar. With just a few simple steps, you can enable the feature without third-party software.
