2 Ways to Set up Wi-Fi Hotspot in Windows 10 Laptop

There must be a time that our several devices need to run with Internet connection, but the router is broken suddenly. At this time, we can use the Wi-Fi hotspot provided by Windows to meet an urgent need. Like previous versions, Windows 10 also own this function and there are two ways for us to set up Wi-Fi hotspot in Windows 10 laptop conveniently and quickly.

  1. Way 1: Set up in Network & Internet
  2. Way 2: Set up in Command Prompt (Admin)

Way 1: Set up in Network & Internet

1. Click the "Start MenuWindows" which is in the lower left corner of desktop and then select "Settingssettings " > Choose "Network & Internet" > Select "Mobile hotspot".

2. For Share my Internet connection from, choose the Internet connection you want to share. Then Click Edit > Enter a new network name and password > Save.

3. At last, turn on "Share my Internet connection with other devices" and then Wi-Fi hotspot will be set up successfully.

Way 2: Set up in Command Prompt (Admin)

1. Search "Command Prompt" in the search filed on the desktop taskbar and open it.

2. Enter "NETSH WLAN set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Your SSID key=Your Password" in the place that the cursor is blinking.

Tips: SSID is the name of the Hosted Network (Wi-Fi hotspot) and SSID Key is the password to access the Hosted Network (Wi-Fi hotspot). Both of them can be set by ourselves.

3. After Hosted Network is created, enter "NETSH WLAN start hostednetwork" in the place that the cursor is blinking to activate it.

4. Click the "Start Menuwindows"which is in the lower left corner of desktop and then select "Settingssettings " > Choose "Network & Internet" > Tap "Change adapter options".

5. Right-click the network adapter with an internet connection that you choose to connect with the Hosted Network (new Wi-Fi hotspot) > Select "Properties".

6. After entering the "Properties", switch to "Sharing" button > Tick "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" > Select the Hosted Virtual Adapter (the Wi-Fi hotspot you activated just now) from the Home networking connection options > Click "OK" to finish.

After setting up the Wi-Fi hotspot by one of the two ways introduced above, the other device can be connected on by entering the Wi-Fi settings on that device firstly. Then find your network and enter the password. The network can be used at that time.
