Switch User is greyed out or is disabled when you want to switch to use the Windows 10 computer with another account?
Actually, as long as you could control Fast User Switching feature enabled or disabled in Windows 10, you could change the user account whenever you want.
Tips: Fast User Switching feature in Windows 10 could allow users to login to a PC while keeping other users logged in and their applications running.
How to enable/disable Fast User Switching in Windows 10?
1. Open Run dialog box with Windows + R key and enter "gpedit.msc".
2. Press Enter to open Local Group Policy Editor.
3. Expand the left pane and in the right side pane, double click the "Hide entry points for Fast User Switching".
Left pane: Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Logon
4. Check Enabled or Disabled/Not configured in pop-up dialog and apply changes to disable or enabled Fast User Switching feature.
If you cannot successfully turn on/off Fast User Switching feature with above way in Windows 10 computer, please try to do using Registry Editor.
1. Open Run dialog box and type "regedit" in the box.
2. Press Enter and Registry Editor Windows is opened.
3. Navigate to following path in the left-side pane, then search and find value name HideFastUserSwitching in the right-side pane.
Computer >HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >SOFTWARE > Microsoft >Windows > CurrentVersion >Policies > System
4. Change the value data to enable/disable Fast User Switching feature.
Double click the value and enter value data "0" or "1". Then click OK to save changes. Once you set the value data to 1, Fast User Switching feature would be disabled. To re-enable it, please change the value to 0.
5. Close the Registry Editor and you will have to log off and log back for the changes to take effect.
From then on, while you try to press Alt + F4 to switch user in Windows 10 or click logged user account to change to use another account, you would find "Fast User Switching" is enable or disabled.
