What is "Repair State" on iOS 17.5 and How to Enable It

By Jennifer | Last Updated

Apple introduced the "Stolen Device Protection" feature in iOS 17.3 and later. Users with this feature enabled will have to wait an hour if they need to change settings related to device security, such as turning off the "Find My" option.

While this is done for the security of personal information, when users bring their device to a repair store, they will have to wait up to an hour in the store before they can start repairing their device if they forget to disable "Find My iPhone" first.

Therefore, in order to improve the user experience, Apple has added a "Repair State" mode in iOS 17.5. With this new feature, users will no longer need to deactivate Find My iPhone and Activate Lock before sending their iPhone in for repair, and this won't affect any of the device's features.

When the mode is turned on, your iPhone will display the message "This device remains fully functional in the repair state" , then the technicians will be able to verify that you're the owner of the device directly from this text without any other more complicated proof.
