BitlockerBitLocker Password Manager tool

Is there any Password Manager tool to manage BitLocker passwords?

I encrypted several different drives with different passwords and protection modes. However, it’s quite difficult to find out corresponding BitLocker key. Is there any BitLocker password management software available that allows me to manage all my BitLocker passwords, such as PIN codes, recovery passwords, recovery keys, startup keys and more? In this way, I won’t have to worry about constantly forgetting or misplacing them.

I understand your need. However, currently there is no dedicated standalone BitLocker password management tool for managing BitLocker passwords as you described. BitLocker is a full-drive encryption feature built into the Windows operating system, and its password management is typically handled through the operating system itself.

Besides, BitLocker relies highly on embedded TPM chip instead of the software to ensure the security of both keys and encrypted data which can provide robust hardware-level protection. Users can protect BitLocker-encrypted disk data with multiple authentication mechanisms by adding key protectors to BitLocker.

Windows provides a BitLocker Recovery Password Viewer tool for viewing the computer's BitLocker recovery key, but it is only supported on Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Vista Enterprise versions. If it does exist a password management tools to manage BitLocker encryption password, then the following factors should be considered first:

1. High Security: Ensure that the tool itself is secure and trustworthy. Otherwise, if the password management tool becomes inaccessible or compromised, it could hinder BitLocker unlocking process.

2. Accessible before System Sign in: BitLocker usually does system integrity check and identity authentication before system startup, while password management softwares remain unstart during certain stages of system startup, causing it unable to sign into Windows as the system drive is still locked .

3. No Impact with BitLocker's Operation: The password management tool should not interfere with BitLocker's ability to recover or reset these passwords in emergency situations.

It’s better to backup important BitLocker key files and passwords, especially keeping the recovery key safe. In most cases of password loss, the 48-digit recovery key for BitLocker drive encryption is needed for retrieval. It is recommended to use iSunshare UBitkey to help quickly locate the BitLocker recovery key file location in the active directory or recover BitLocker password.
